The Back Care Program

The major emphasis of The Back Care Program is to present educational programs designed to help companies prevent and manage back care injuries in industrial settings. This program is presented to supervisors and workers in areas where past experience has shown a significant incidence of back injuries.

The general objective of the program is to reduce the incidence and severity of work related back injuries and to help the company manage back injuries when they do occur. This will result in cost savings to the company and reduce pain and suffering as well as avoid loss of income by the individual worker.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE BACK CARE PROGRAM

  • Educate the participant in the basics of anatomy and mechanics of the spine.
  • Educate the participant in the causes of back injuries. The emphasis is to show each person his/her responsibility in avoiding injury or risk of injury.
  • Educate the participant in how to recognize and avoid potentially harmful situations, thus preventing the incidence and severity of back injuries.
  • Acquaint the participant with the common types of back disorders.
  • Create self confidence so that the participant may most effectively adjust to and manage a back disorder if it develops.
  • Avoid excess of potentially harmful treatments. The lack of basic knowledge about their backs forces many people to search anywhere and everywhere for a "cure".
  • Decrease Expenses. The knowledge and ability gained by the individual to cope with potential back problems should reduce the necessity of seeing the doctor or physical therapist for passive treatments.
